The Desert Rose Labyrinth & Sculpture Gardens in Kayenta is the perfect marriage of art and nature. The labyrinth is patterned after the famous 12th century Chartres Cathedral labyrinth in France which has been used for centuries as a walking pathway for meditation. The labyrinth in Kayenta was constructed by volunteers from the community using more than 1,800 indigenous rocks.
The Desert Rose Labyrinth & Sculpture Gardens is truly a labor of love. It is open to the public to enjoy at no charge.
With a 360 degree view of red rock cliffs and blue sky, it is a beautiful place to relax and unwind. This labyrinth is patterned after the classic eleven-circuit path of the famous 12th century Chartres Cathedral labyrinth in France. Grace Cathedral in San Francisco uses this same labyrinth design, as does Green Valley Spa in St George. 

Labyrinths have been used in many cultures throughout time, and although the patterns vary between cultures and generations, they are wonderful pathways to “unwind the mind”. If you’ve ever gone for a walk to clear your head or work through a problem, you’ve experienced one of the many benefits of walking a labyrinth.

Webster’s unabridged dictionary lists the following definitions: lab-y-rinth (lab` e rinth), n. 1. an intricate combination of paths created for walking 2. in Greek Mythology - a vast maze built on the Mediterranean isle of Crete by Athenian architect Daedalus at the command of King Minos.

Those who have walked the labyrinth say it brings a sense of peace, and the sculpture gardens are inspiring. But don’t take their word for it. Experience it for yourself.
Eight sculptures were donated by artists willing to share their talents. Well known sculptors Frank Riggs, Matt Clark and Tom Jackson, Trent Ripplinger, Tony Forbes, and more. The colorful fused glass sculpture at the entrance was done by Cheryl Collins who created the piece at the entrance to the IHC Hospital in St George. Wind sculptures by John Whitaker bring the magic of movement.
