Locally filmed "THE FLYBOYS" Opens in Theatres August 15th in St. George THE FLYBOYS, a feature film shot in St. George, Utah will be released in theatres on Friday, August 15th in St. George, and then will be rolled out in theatres across the country. Since its filming, the theatrical release of THE FLYBOYS has been highly anticipated by local residents as well as city and business leaders. Rocco DeVilliers, the films Writer, Director and Producer commented, "We are so grateful to the city of St. George for their wonderful support and hospitality during the shooting of this film. I'm very excited to open the film in this beautiful community." THE FLYBOYS is the story of two boys from a small town who find their courage tested when they accidentally stow away aboard an airplane owned by the mob. The aerial theme is a major feature of the film. A little known fact is that many of the air-to-air scenes in the movie were filmed from a Cessna 207 aircraft, owned by St. George's own Mayor, Dan McArthur. When asked about the movie, Mayor McArthur noted "This film will be a classic. Everyone, both young and old, can relate to the emotions portrayed in the film. It will remind us of our youth and give adults a place to begin a dialog with their youth about everyday experiences. The Flyboys is a film that will one day be a part of my movie collection. I can hardly wait for its release." The film will be released only in theatres, and will not be available on home video until next year. THE FLYBOYS has already garnered rave reviews in the press. Patrick Stibbs of the Omaha City Weekly calls THE FLYBOYS "...One of the best action-adventure movies ever made." Joel Massi of www.moviepulse.net noted "it's refreshing to see such commitment to adventure in a kids' film, and paired with a uniquely winding story of friendship and courage, DeVilliers' rousting thrill ride never falters." Joyce Purvy of American Radio Network said, "It's a great movie... totally action-packed and unpredictable." In addition to its success with critics, THE FLYBOYS has assembled an incredibly impressive string of wins at film festivals across the country. The film has earned 43 major awards, and still counting. "I have not encountered another film with this level of success on the film festival circuit" said Dan Urness, the film's Co-Producer, "typically a film is showered with praise after earning five or six awards; so the response from festival juries and audiences has been overwhelming". 2009 Springdale Semi-Centennial Logo Contest - Call for submissions The Town of Springdale, Utah will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary on May 9, 2009. There will be a series of celebrations throughout the year, and the Town wishes to commemorate the year with a special logo. Painting With Acrylic - A workshop by Charles Harrington, AWS, ISA - 08.15-19.08 - Sponsored by: Art Crusade of Hurricane Valley - Rainbow Canyon Community - Center (22 miles from Zion National Park) - 751 West 2300 The diversity of his life and professional experience has given Charles Harrington a unique and perhaps unconventional perspective on the world of fine art. After earning two degrees in architecture from the University of Arkansas, he spent 15 years as a practicing architectural designer and illustrator. It was during this time that he realized his first love had always been fine art. He then returned to academia, earning a Master of Architecture degree from Oklahoma State University. Upon graduation, Charles accepted a faculty position with the School of Art and Architecture at Louisiana Tech University, teaching architecture courses as well as drawing and water-media painting. Finally he was able to indulge in both of his passions - fine art and architecture - in the same venue. Charles taught for 23 years before leaving Louisiana Tech in 2003 to pursue fine art full time. He now devotes his time to painting, writing, and conducting painting workshops. This workshop will focus on the use of acrylics to gain the technical and aesthetic advantages offered by this versatile medium while retaining the aesthetic of traditional media such as watercolor and oils. The acrylic techniques presented can result in a finished painting that the casual observer can’t distinguish from watercolor. Additionally, they can result in a happy combination of transparent, translucent, and opaque application possible only with acrylics. This versatility will convince you that acrylics are both attractive and practical as a painting medium applied to a variety of surfaces (paper, canvas and gesso primed panels). Daily demonstrations will focus on the techniques that illustrate the diversity of acrylics and will include the design issues presented in Charles’ North Light book “Acrylics: The Watercolor Alternative” and in his DVD workshops. Class activities will include as much one-on-one interaction between individual students and the instructor as time allows. Tuition: $350.00 for Art Crusade Members and $385.00 for non-members. A $100.00 deposit will hold a place for you in the workshop and will be non-refundable after July 15, 2008. Cancellations on or before July 15th will receive a $50.00 refund. The balance of the tuition will be due by August 15th. Art Crusade Memberships are $25.00 per year and allows members to receive a 10% discount on all classes and workshops for that year. Because of Charles’ interest in giving individual attention, the workshop will be limited to 20 participants. For more information about the instructor, check his web-site @ http:charlesharrington.com For more details, to sign up for this workshop or how to become a member of “AC“, contact: Carol Larson Phone: (435)635-6966 email: musiccarol@msn.com |
